A sense of belonging and help-seeking are often thought of as key drivers for college students’ academic success. However, despite a burgeoning literature on these topics, Dr. Carlton Fong discussed the complexity of research findings through several large syntheses of research studies. He also shared new data through a psychosociocultural lens to address how we might understand belonging and help-seeking processes as culturalized phenomena for institutionally marginalized students. Finally, he highlighted specific recommendations for practice.
