Not Your Typical Tech Bros: A Mentoring Platform Built on Research
MentorPRO was created by two sisters, Dr. Jean Rhodes and Nancy McNamara. They combined their skills in mentoring and technology to solve a big problem—how to make proven mentoring practices work at scale.
Jean is a clinical psychologist, college professor, and Director of the Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring at UMass Boston. For more than 30 years, she has studied what makes mentoring programs successful. Her research has shaped national policies and shows the importance of goal setting, regular feedback, mentor training, and keeping participants engaged. These best practices are built right into MentorPRO.
Nancy is a computer scientist and tech entrepreneur. She has decades of experience creating secure, easy-to-use software. She started her career at Xerox PARC, worked in MIT-based startups, and later founded Academic Web Pages, helping hundreds of academic programs go online. Her work makes sure MentorPRO is flexible, secure, and simple to use for any mentoring program.
The idea for MentorPRO started on a walk along the Jersey Shore. Jean had just written a book about mentoring and was thinking about why so many programs struggle to get consistent results. Nancy asked a simple but powerful question:
“Could a digital mentoring platform make it easier to use what we know works?”
That question led to the creation of MentorPRO: an all-in-one, research-backed mentoring software platform designed to help mentoring programs scale their impact, improve participant outcomes, and stay aligned with the latest science.
Today, MentorPRO is an all-in-one mentoring platform designed to help universities, nonprofits, and workforce development programs improve outcomes at scale. The platform blends decades of peer-reviewed research with powerful tools for mentor-mentee matching, relationship tracking, digital check-ins, and real-time analytics. With integrated access to MentorPRO Academy, users can also complete evidence-based mentor training and receive certifications from the Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring.
Whether you’re launching a new mentoring initiative or optimizing an existing program, MentorPRO and the MentorPRO team offer a mentoring platform rooted in science, guided by experience, and built for results.
