Over two years, 285 mentors and 363 mentees exchanged 5,008 messages and held 316 meetings.

Study 2: The Connected Futures Flash Course

A second study evaluated the Connected Futures Flash Course — a free, 20-minute online intervention that pairs with MentorPRO’s flash mentoring network (Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring, 2025).

Results from the pilot randomized controlled trial:

  • Statistically significant gains in networking confidence (Cohen’s d = 1.23 — large effect size)
  • Students took concrete action: attended office hours, contacted faculty, built professional connections they would not otherwise have made
  • 16% of students offered the flash course completed it, compared to only 5.6% offered a longer four-session version

More students completing a shorter intervention means greater aggregate impact — a core principle in public health and intervention science.

  • Graduates are 3.23 times more likely to graduate within four years
  • Nearly double the first- and second-year retention rates of peers who did not take the course
