We’re thrilled to welcome Becky Wai-Ling Packard, PhD, as the featured presenter for our upcoming Effective Student Mentoring Webinar on March 26, 2026 at 12PM ET.

Mentors play many roles across educational and developmental contexts, and supporting growth sometimes means delivering feedback that is hard to hear or engaging in conversations where perspectives differ. Effective mentoring requires striking a thoughtful balance: ensuring mentees feel supported and “in our corner,” while also communicating messages that challenge and move them forward.

In Navigating Difficult Mentoring Conversations, Dr. Packard, author of Successful STEM Mentoring Initiatives for Underrepresented Students: A Research-Based Guide for Faculty and Administrators, will explore why certain mentoring conversations can feel especially challenging and how mentors can approach them with clarity, confidence, and care. Drawing from both research and lived mentoring practice, she will unpack the dynamics that make these moments complex and share practical, evidence-informed strategies for navigating them effectively.

Participants will leave with actionable tools that can be applied across diverse mentoring relationships and settings.
